Tomorrow begins another action packed MLG weekend and I wanted to give you a nice pre-MLG warm-up package to begin with tonight and tomorrow before the fun begins. Especially for us poor nubs who are stuck behind and can’t attend the event live (a tear is trickling down my cheek as I write this). First off let’s cover all the event details to make sure we’re all on the same page.

All three games are scheduled to be played everyday of the tournament, with the finals falling on Sunday the 3rd. Finally I wanted to mention something minor that will help the people at home keep up with everything going on this weekend. First off, Twitter is your friend. You can get all kinds of news and inside information the moment it’s happening by following the right people. Check out Spawn Room’s Twitter lists to find some great people and organizations to follow. You can also use applications like TweetDeck to keep constantly updated all day long, or if you don’t feel like installing anything, Google has a nifty feature called “Realtime Search“. Navigate over there and type in “MLG Dallas” to see what’s happening!

Shout Out: QuadV and the UGC

This Wednesday I wanted to bring up a website that’s in the process of returning from a hiatus to broadcast the exciting events happening in Italy. Starting tomorrow, the folks of QuadV will be traveling to the Ultimate Gaming Championship in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy and broadcasting the matches. If you happen to be attending or watching the UGC matches, you’ll get a chance to see QuadV commentators Stuart “TosspoT” Saw and Leight “Deman” Smith.

QuadV Logo

QuadV is an eSports broadcasting website that’s been featured prominently within the industry hosting live matches and supplying video-on-demand. They’ve covered various tournaments, some as large as WCG. In 2010 the site went quiet as it covered less and less content, and it wasn’t until very recently they announced their return with the UGC as a headline. It’s very exciting times here, and QuadV returning in the midst of it is the topping on this giant eSports cake we’ve been enjoying lately.

So go show your support by checking out the site and watching the great broadcasts starting tomorrow!

North American Star League (NASL) Announcement

This is big news, so big I came out of hibernation, just to post this. If you’ve followed competitive Starcraft 2 at all, you’ve undoubtedly heard of the GSL. You know, that massive Korean tournament that everyone’s always talking about? Well some bright minds and motivated individuals decided the states needs their own SC2 league of that caliber and created the NASL, or North American Star League! This tournament is huge, the prize pot is $400,000 split between 3, roughly 13-week seasons. It starts April 5th, and will feature games 5 nights a week, for three hours. You know what that means, tons and tons of live SC2 matches to get your fill of!

Now the details are still being hashed out at this point, but you can head over to their main site here and watch an epic video about it. You can also cast 10 votes for the 50 players lucky enough to be drafted into this league. So do your research and pick your favorite guys!

Finally I wanted to offer a link to a comprehensive interview about this league, courtesy of G4 and Geoff ‘iNcontrol’ Robinson: G4 exclusive interview

Spawn Room Changes

Over the next month and a half, I will be slowly working on some major changes to Spawn Room. The first, you may have noticed, is a theme change. The current theme is NOT the one that’s going to be used forever. I am currently working on creating a completely custom theme I feel will suit the site well.

The functionality of the website will also be changing. Instead of a bloggish look, it will be more modular and submission focused. I want the main page to be more informative than it currently is. You’ll hopefully see these changes coming sometime in January assuming I have enough time.

Finally, the forums are now LIVE! We’re using bbPress because it has great WordPress integration, BUT I don’t know if this is also the final solution for forums. In any case, they’re up and running so Akheel (WoW guild) has somewhere to post information.

That’s it for now. Thanks for visiting!

(Azgalor) Akheel Recruiting, Softcore 10-mans

Akheel (Alliance) is currently looking for some people interested in doing some intimate late night raids scheduled Tuesday and Thursday, 8pm-12am CST. We’ll also undoubtedly continue our raids more casually later in the week and on the weekend if availability permits.

The guild currently consists of 5 close friends interested in raiding on a schedule and a few more interested in being casually available if people don’t show. We’re looking for at least 5 more interested raiders that want to raid with some close friends in a fun atmosphere. We’re not looking to kill each other with strict rules, but we do want people to adhere to the schedule and focused on progression.

We also enjoy PvP and have plans to do rated Battlegrounds, and form Arena teams.

If you’re interested in learning more or joining our guild, post a response here or PM me in game. You can also contact Vens or Tikos if I’m not available. On a final note, our guild consists of 20+ year old members, and we’re looking to keep it that way. However, if you consider yourself a mature, younger gamer, feel free to contact us.

Classes we currently have: druid (resto), paladin (tank), shaman (dps), druid (dps), and mage (dps).

This post has gone up in a couple places. Akheel, our alliance guild on Azgalor, is looking for some new members. If you’re at all interested feel free to contact us! Oh, and I’m planning on adding forums here soon!

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm TONIGHT

Tonight we finally get our hands on Cataclysm and anticipation has never been higher. We got some food, some drank (caffeinated), and some lovin’ for WoW, and we’re ready to get our hands dirty in this next great expansion. The majority of Spawn Room WoW-ers play on US-Azgalor, so if you want to join us, hop on Mumble and get to playin’. We’ll be on late tonight! Hope to see you on.
